Q1 Recap & Q2 Predications

Q1 Recap & Q2 Predications

Posted 09 April 2021

Overwhelmed would be an understatement for how I am feeling at the end of Q1. For many years I have had the dream of starting my own business, and have mentally built up a vision for how the business would look. At the core was always people. To create an environment where my team comes first. To be surrounded by a team that genuinely supports each other. Offer flexibility, trust & autonomy to travel, and work in a way that suits them best. A platform for them to love what they do. To be fairly rewarded for their contribution and ultimately very fulfilled. Deciding on the name for UMATR was simple, because nothing else matters more than you. ๐Ÿ’™

In such a short time we have already carved the foundations of this model - proving that it works. I am a big believer of if you look after your team, they will look after your customers. We were born out of the desire to challenge the conventional and outdated recruitment model & values. Alongside creating an environment for our team members we have set out to disrupt the industry. We have set out to do things differently. To inspire confidence and spark creativity. This starts by partnering with clients who share our values, and when working with engineers putting them at the centre of the search. ๐ŸŽฏ

I owe our quick success to this ethos. I am incredibly thankful for all of the support from both the tech and recruitment community. I set out some incredibly ambitious goals and thought if we could get close to them in our first quarter I would be happy, and set ourselves for a decent first year. Somehow we have managed to go above and beyond by exceeding every single target mapped out. Following on from a tough 2020 we were predicting that many companies would be bouncing back and rolling out hiring plans across the board. The HealthTech & FinTech companies that weathered the storm last year have been continuing to scale. It has also been wonderful to see Travel & Hospitality companies who were worst effected get back on their feet and begin hiring again, adapting to the changes in the world. โœˆ๏ธ

Here are some of the highlights from our Q1: ๐Ÿงข

... and so much more that I have probably missed out

Looking ahead to Q2 my predication is that it will be even bigger and better. We tend to find that Q2 is when the momentum kicks in and all the companies that arenโ€™t already hiring join the party. Sometimes it takes the early part of the year for teams to define their hiring plans, which means Q2 is prime time for them to ramp up. I predict there to be even more competition in attracting & securing the top talent. In these coming months organisations will begin to return to the office, but I expect to see many offering a hybrid-remote model to their team. Those companies that arenโ€™t willing to be flexible, and more importantly trust their team members will find it increasingly more difficult to secure top talent. This goes for all industries; at UMATR we are in the office Monday to Thursday, as I believe that in-person collaboration is impossible to replicate remotely. However, Friday is offered as a company-wide remote day so everyone can have an extra hour in bed, or just wrap up their day in the afternoon and begin to enjoy their well-deserved weekend break. ๐ŸŽ‰

We are incredibly excited to kick off Q2 as we have many things to look forward to. Below is a summary of my predications and some of my targets we have set out to achieve between now and the end of June: ๐Ÿ”ฎ

๐Ÿš€ 2.5x our revenue from last quarter at a minimum

๐Ÿ• 3x our current headcount

๐Ÿ”‘ Move into a bigger office

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Place more full-time engineers across North America and remain as our main location

๐ŸŒญ Work with clients in at least three European locations

๐Ÿ—ฃ Assist more underrepresented groups secure dream roles with cool tech companies

๐Ÿ“… Help an engineer secure a contract position

๐Ÿ„๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ Take our team on our first mini incentive

โ˜€๏ธ Clear 90% of our company incentive trip target to take our team away somewhere sunny

๐Ÿค– Announce our new model that will begin to revolutionize the recruitment industry

๐Ÿ‘€ Make progress on a secret blockchain project to be announced later this year

I would like to thank everyone again for the support. The clients that shared and believed in our mission & values. The engineers that trusted us to help them navigate the market and secure them their dream role. Last but certainly not least, every single person that has liked, shared, and got in touch to wish us luck. I appreciate you all so much.
