Senior Software Engineer (Java / Observability)
πAbu Dhabi, UAE (Relocation package available) π°Up to 40,000 AED
We're partnering with an innovative technology company that's helping some of the world's leading organisations make their digital platforms more secure, reliable and seamless.
Their technology operates in complex, high-security environments, where performance, scalability and reliability are critical. With a platform deployed across public clouds, private infrastructure and highly secure on-premise environments, they're tackling engineering challenges that go well beyond traditional cloud applications.
And that's where this opportunity gets interesting.
They're investing in the next generation of their engineering infrastructure, creating a more consistent, scalable and intelligent way to monitor and operate their systems.
You'll be joining a talented engineering team where your work will directly influence how services are built, deployed and maintained across the business.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer specialising in Java and Observability to help build the tools and infrastructure that make that possible.
You'll work on a platform used across multiple cloud and on-premise environments, developing the instrumentation, telemetry pipelines and monitoring capabilities that engineering teams rely on every day.
From Java, Spring Boot and OpenTelemetry to Kubernetes and distributed systems, you'll have the opportunity to solve complex engineering challenges and influence how observability is implemented across the entire platform.
This is a hands-on engineering role with genuine technical ownership, where you'll collaborate with other engineers to improve system reliability, simplify troubleshooting and make their development experience better.
What you will do:
-
Build and improve observability infrastructure, developing scalable solutions for collecting and analysing metrics, logs and traces.
-
Develop Java-based instrumentation, using OpenTelemetry, Micrometer and Spring Boot to make services observable from deployment.
-
Design telemetry pipelines that work consistently across AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes and on-premise environments.
-
Improve monitoring and alerting, helping engineering teams identify issues faster and reduce unnecessary alerts.
-
Develop dashboards and reliability metrics, including SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, to support production operations.
-
Integrate observability platforms, including New Relic and other monitoring tools, through vendor-neutral OpenTelemetry pipelines.
Requirements
-
8+ years of professional experience working with Java and JVM-based technologies in production environments.
-
Strong hands-on experience with Java 17/21 and Spring Boot.
-
Practical experience implementing OpenTelemetry, including instrumentation, distributed tracing and telemetry pipelines.
-
Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices and backend architecture.
-
Experience working with Kubernetes and deploying applications across cloud or on-premise environments.
-
Familiarity with New Relic, including monitoring, dashboards and alerting.
-
Understanding of metrics, logs, traces, SLIs, SLOs and production monitoring.
-
Experience building reusable engineering tools, libraries or infrastructure used by multiple teams.
