Founding Engineer — AI Infrastructure / OSS / Systems
Stack: Rust, Distributed Systems, Graph Infrastructure, Lakehouse Architecture, AI Agents
We’re building core infrastructure for autonomous AI systems.
At the center is a lakehouse-native graph database designed for AI agents, bringing git-style workflows (branching, commits, merges) to typed graph data. The goal is to create a durable, versioned, queryable memory layer purpose-built for agentic systems.
The engine is open source (MIT licensed), already seeing early adoption, and backed by a broader vision around multi-agent orchestration and forward-deployed AI infrastructure.
We’re funded, building in public, and hiring a Founding Engineer to shape both the architecture and engineering culture from day one.
The Role
This is not a traditional VP Engineering hire.
We’re looking for a deeply technical builder who can:
- Write production Rust code
- Own technical direction across the platform
- Hire and mentor the first engineers
- Work directly with customers and integrations
- Help shape the OSS narrative and developer ecosystem around the product
The profile is closer to an early engineering leader at Linear, Cursor, Vercel, or LanceDB than a career manager or pure OSS maintainer.
What We Value
The strongest candidates usually demonstrate:
- High agency through OSS, writing, side projects, or communities
- Strong first-principles judgment
- Resilience and long-term consistency
- The ability to attract exceptional engineers
- A credible public technical voice
We care about engineers who have actually built foundational systems — query engines, storage layers, graph infrastructure, distributed systems, retrieval runtimes, or versioned-data systems — not simply worked adjacent to them.
Rust experience is strongly preferred.
We also value people already thinking deeply about:
- AI memory architectures
- Knowledge graphs for LLMs
- Git-for-data systems
- Lakehouse infrastructure
- OSS business models and governance
Founding Engineer DNA
This is fundamentally a 0→1 environment.
We want someone who:
- Has taken products from blank repo to real adoption
- Can operate across infrastructure, APIs, SDKs, and product UX
- Is comfortable working directly inside customer environments
- Combines systems depth with product instinct
If building foundational infrastructure for AI agents from first principles sounds exciting, we’d love to speak.
