Relocating can be a fantastic opportunity. After all, life is all about new experiences!
Experiencing a new city and the culture that goes with it, potentially learning a new language, meeting new people, and even reinventing yourself.
With that being said, relocating isn’t only moving jobs but also moving house, so I can imagine how stressful it must be to pack your whole life and move to a new location. Most of the time you have other people to consider too, right? A partner, children, family.
This blog is aimed to help you deal with stress, and is divided in 3 categories: finance-related stress, new place-related stress, and family-related stress.

💸If you’re stressed about the finances:
1. Ask your employer about a relocation package
If you’ve been asked to relocate, you might be able to negotiate a relocation package with your employer. What’s available to you will depend on the size of the company, and although they may not provide any compensation (unless it’s specified in your contract), they may assist with moving costs, legal fees, travel costs, and temporary housing costs.
Ensure to budget for what you will need and when, and then allocate accordingly. When it comes to buying things, there’s a chance you might not need everything at once, so pick things up as you go.
🏡 If you’re stressed about moving to a new area:
1. Talk to your future employer
Your employer is aware of your relocation, and more often than not they want to help. They can offer advice on where to live, what area is the best, schools, or even suggest things based on your interest! A way for your employer to find out more about you too, win win.
2. Research the area
Use the power of the internet to research the city, or a specific location. People often post photos, or write on forums. It’s a great way to find out more about your community. Knowing more about the location may calm your nerves, and once you move you will feel more at home. After all, everything will seem more familiar.
3. Reach out to your future colleagues.
If you’re scared of feeling lonely, reaching out will make you feel more peaceful knowing someone in that city. You could build a strong relationship at the same time as asking for more information on the city.
Packing your whole life away in boxes may be daunting, but starting early and staying organized is the key.
Ensure to segregate your boxes based on rooms, and label them. When it comes to unpacking, it will make things easier and possibly quicker.

Missing your family
You may be worried about leaving your friends and family behind, but remember facetime/zoom exists. At the touch of your fingertips, you are able to speak and see them! Even better, plan visits - imagine how exciting it is to have people visit you, and see your new home and area!
